Morton Visuals hit the urban gym Crossfit East Village yesterday to work out some new images for an upcoming photography class. The large industrial setting was perfect for some unique looks, and we were determined to go over the top for a great shot. Over the top of the rafters, that is!

San Diego photographer William Morton climbed over the rafters to get these images of member Daniel Cook. The intensity of the rope climb is apparent – especially considering the fact that Daniel had to hang in position halfway up the rope for the shots. William shot with a focused light coming down on Daniel to illustrate him climbing his way out of an abyss. A rimlight was added to help highlight the physique.
We then worked with trainer Mike Gonzalez for a couple of different images. Mike demonstrated leaping on to a large blocks, catching a lot of air as he did it. It’s apparent from the shadows created that Crossfit really does support you in your pursuit of physical fitness.
Finally we created a special effects shot with Mike pushing a loaded weight bar skyward. We turned the afternoon light into a gym at midnight. And we ensured Mike got in a workout too. 🙂
Our thanks to Grant Foreman and the men of Crossfit East Village! If you haven’t been there, I encourage you to check it out. They’re built for serious fitness!
